Two unexpected characters will receive new skins in Genshin Impact 4.8, according to fresh leaks about the upcoming content. While the action RPG by HoYoverse is still in the early stages of Version 4.7, a massive patch with an important Archon Quest and three new playable characters, the closed beta for Version 4.8 has already started and, with it, leaks have started to occur. Some of them are focused on the new character in Genshin Impact 4.8, Emilie, who has already been confirmed by HoYoverse, while others focus on other types of additions, like cosmetics and game modes.
One of the most recent leaks highlights two new character skins. According to information provided by the leaker known as Dim, which was shared in a Reddit post, Nilou and Kirara will receive skins in Version 4.8. As seen in Dim’s leak, the internal codenames for each character skin was obtained, with Kirara being referred to as Momoka – a codename that had been used in the leaks prior to Kirara’s release last year. While new character skins are expected for Genshin Impact 4.8 given the regular release schedule, the leaked units receiving them are fairly surprising.

The leaks about Nilou and Kirara’s skins in Version 4.8 are somewhat astonishing given the fact that neither unit is extremely popular among team comps, be they for regular gameplay or for challenging the Spiral Abyss, for instance. They are not particularly bad, but there are better units that do their exact same job a lot more efficiently. If the leaks are true, it seems like their new skins could be a way of making Nilou and Kirara relevant in Genshin Impact and, perhaps, active in more team comps, even if their usage can be bested by other units.

Although gameplay value is a lot more important when it comes to gameplay itself, aesthetic value also pulls in a lot of players’ attention when choosing the characters they want in their party. The rumored skins for Nilou and Kirara could be a way of getting these two units in team comps more frequently simply due to their alternative outfits. Of course, this does not address their gameplay abilities and stat scaling in any capacity – but for regular exploration and Domain grinding in Genshin Impact, it should not affect too much of the experience.
Dim also obtained the 3D base renders of the rumored character skins. Nilou’s skin, as seen on Reddit, seems to showcase the character in multi-layered clothing and a crown of laurels adorning her headpiece. Little else can be discerned from it due to the lack of more textures and coloring. Kirara’s skin, which was also posted on Reddit, shows the Dendro character wearing high boots, a corset, and a hat, which has a bow-shaped adornment that resembles her feline ears.
Clearer details about the skins should be leaked as the game approaches the release of Version 4.8 in mid-July.
For now, these leaks should be considered with caution, as they me be inaccurate or subject to change. Nevertheless, despite how surprising the character choice for these rumored skins may be, new cosmetics are always welcome. It seems like this will be a particularly good patch for Kirara, as she may not only get a F2P (free-to-play) skin but also be offered as a free character in Genshin Impact 4.8 if the leaks are to be trusted.
