🚲 Do you work in schools or with kids and need ideas to get them active? One of our main goals is to encourage more people to cycle - however we can. It was fantastic to recently work with the London Borough of Waltham Forest again, doing just that with schools and our pedal-powered activities! Pupils were full of smiles as they took part in a mix of inter-school cycling competitions and pedal-powered activities. A fantastic way to get school kids active and excited about their school run! 🚲 Let's hope a few more are inspired to walk or cycle to school! Let us know if we can help with your next event. 🔗 Visit Outspoken Cycles - https://buff.ly/4cnD0Du #CyclingToSchool #ActiveKids #CyclingForMentalHealth #WellnessOnWheels #Schoolfun #healthychoices #PedalPower #smoothiebike #scalextric #cyclesprints #schoolplanning #teachers

💰 The aim of the Big Bike Revival is to make cycling accessible for everyone. 🚲 It provides funding to community and voluntary organisations to deliver free events that encourage people to start cycling, cycle more often or to take up cycling again if they have lost their confidence.🚴♀️ If your organisation can run sessions to encourage more people to cycle, you can apply for a grant of up to £3,500. 🚴♂️ Your activities should be for people returning to cycling, complete beginners or people cycling non-regularly and should include fixing bikes, teaching cycle and maintenance skills, and taking people on led bike rides on local routes. Call out to all Cycling Club members! As we see clubs disappear and less people riding we need to ask ourselves what is going on with our sport. Cycling Clubs need to address the demographic they are appealing to and who they are attracting into the sport. Without a doubt we need to encourage the youth element into the sport. No it’s not easy and it takes dedicated members of the Club to take a lead on this and give up something that is precious to us all - time! All clubs and namely members need to start stepping up and volunteering to take a lead in bringing on a youth section in all clubs or else we will see continued decline in our sport. No it’s not an easy task following the guidelines set down by British Cycling but those guidelines are there for good reason. So you can’t let the committee in your club, who are probably already overstretched in keeping the club going take on yet another task, it has to be you or others in the club giving up time to help achieve this aim. We need more young people taking up the sport to keep it alive. #britishcycling #cycling #volunteer #youthdevelopment #engagement #inclusivity #leadership

Greater Cambridge is still the UK's leading city region for walking and cycling according to the latest #WalkingAndCyclingIndex. A new report published by charity Sustrans in partnership with Greater Cambridge Partnership delves into the active travel habits of residents and explores the benefits along with the measures needed to encourage more people to walk or cycle. In total over 155million walking, cycling and wheeling trips were made in the past year while 56% of people walk five days a week or more, and 45% of residents ride a bike at least once a week.Other findings include that 28% of residents want to drive less, yet 44% of residents often use a car because no other transport options are available.Read The Greater Cambridge Walking and Cycling Index for 2023 here - https://ow.ly/jFg550QWEyk#ActiveTravel #Cycling #Walking #GreaterCambridge

During my time as a graduate engineer with P.H. McCarthy & Partners, we in conjunction with Hyder Consulting in the UK, brought an N15/N13 Ballybofey/Stranorlar Bypass scheme through Constraints Study and Route Selection. I left the company in 2002 - In 2007 the Detailed Design was subsequently the subject of Part 10 process (EIS - Planning and Development Regulations, 2001).Despite being recommended for approval by the An Bord Pleanála Inspector, the scheme was refused planning permission in 2009 on the basis of concerns around proximity of minor junctions and accesses to the proposed roundabouts; a perceived lack of detail in relation to the main river crossing and impacts upon tributaries of the river; and unacceptable proximity to one particular inhabited dwelling.Depending on one's point of view this was either a fine example of why we have a robust planning system or a disappointing waste of taxpayers' money - given my limited involvement, I honestly can't say which applies. In any case, it's good to see that funding is now committed for the replacement scheme, and the other Donegal TEN-T projects - the positive implications for road safety in the county can't be overstated.

My wish for Luxembourg's Journalists at RTLToday, RTL Lëtzebuerg, Luxemburger Wort, Virgule.lu, Luxembourg Times, Editions d'Lëtzebuerger Land and ______: Kindly ask Council-leaders, Mayors, the Chambre des Députés + Prime Minister Luc Frieden's government & stakeholders when...in 2024...they will adopt the NGO BYCS's common-sense AND looooong overdue International Children's Cycling manifesto https://lnkd.in/gEQnAYpp The BYCS wisely states in its four points:(1) Make cities for children: Children make up 1/3 of the global urban population, and are among the most vulnerable. When cities are safer for children, they are safer for all.(2) Make cities with children: Children have unique perspectives in our cities. They can see both barriers and solutions to healthy and happy urban lives that adults can't.(3) Make cycling for children: When barriers are lifted, cycling provides diverse benefits for children, including independence, health, happiness, and community integration. and (4) Make cycling with children: Empowering children to become their own cycling champions builds a natural love of cycling, and ensures their urban movement needs are met.- - - -Further context: Consider Denmark...that CONSISTENTLY rates Number 1...outclassing Luxembourg by too many places...on Highest Quality of Living:‣ Social Progress Imperative's Index https://lnkd.in/gQtKxH-t and Denmark outclasses Luxembourg across many of the OECD - OCDE's Key Performance Indicators for Children's Education + Civic Engagement + Community:‣ Luxembourg https//:https://lnkd.in/gW6WewHx‣ Denmark https://lnkd.in/gqQXp7n3Meanwhile:‣ As Luxembourg Times Journalist Andréa Oldereide reports: Twice as many obese teenagers in 4 years...The number of obese teenagers in Luxembourg has MORE THAN doubled since 2018, with 12% of secondary students showing weight levels considered obese in 2021 and 2022 https://lnkd.in/eGfFsVMr- - -
